The Origins of Yoga
Yoga originates in India and has been pricticed for over 5000 years. It is a system of developing the body, mind and spirit. Yoga literally means Union and it works on all systems of the body. It brings clarity to the mind, suppleness to the body and peace to the spirit.
Iyengar Yoga
After poor health during his childhood, B. K. S. Iyengar took to practicing
Yoga. He started teaching at the age of 19, and is still teaching at the
age of 90! He visited europe in 1954, bringing yoga to the western world.
In 1966 he wrote a book titled "Light on Yoga" which has been the
standard refrence book for Iyengar Yoga teaches ever since.
Iyengar Yoga is the most practiced style of yoga worldwide.
Is Iyengar Yoga for Me?
Iyengar Yoga is practiced using props to help students achieve the best possible asana (posture) in a safe and controlled way. It helps the body to become supple and strong, and the mind calm and focused.
Nearly everybody can benefit from practicing Iyengar Yoga. It is very safe as great care is given to the correct alignment of the body.
